Education in Punjab

A Line of Thought

Being the Land of the Gurus, literacy in Punjab should have been cent percent.  But the situation is dismal, and the divide between the urban and the rural is wide, wide, wide.

It is heartening, indeed, that the Punjab Government is working on a project for implementation of Education Satellite (EDUSAT), with a life-span of 10 years or so.  For more on this:

Of the 300 classrooms short listed for the purpose, 34 are for Elementary Schools and 100 for High and Senior Secondary Schools, the rest being for Colleges.  This is just a fraction of the large number of schools in the State.  In other words, majority of children in the State will still go without quality education for a number of years to come.

A Projector, DVD player, and set of CDs for various subjects can provide quality education to rural students residing in remote villages, at par with their urban counterparts.  English-speaking and courses too are available on CDs.  [Most of the prestigious private schools in major towns are already making use of such apparatus to assist their students in understanding the subjects, making projects, etc.]
That’s making Technology work for us.   The scheme can cover entire India.  Lets begin at Home.  Lets take every Punjab child to the world!

If you feel concerned and wish to participate in providing equal opportunities in terms of education, a basic need, to the Have-nots, kindly go to the section ‘Make a Difference.’  [The same apparatus if gifted to gurdwaras in villages can educate the rural masses on every issue of concern, be it local or global.]
